Chattanooga Accelerates Sustainable Mobility with EPB Driving Change Vehicles

Another unique CarShare business model ACA developed and launched combining vanpool and CarSharing using all electric vehicles.

Chattanooga, TN (April 4, 2017) – EPB announced the roll-out of three EPB Driving Change vehicles, among a 20 vehicle fleet of Nissan Leafs for Chattanooga’s Green Commuter EV Car Share program. The Coolidge, Pearl and Smokey are uniquely branded and available at discounted rates to provide the community with an affordable and eco-friendly urban transportation solution.

First announced in June 2016, the program is a partnership between Green Commuter, TVA, CARTA, Prova Group and EPB. The membership-based, fully automated program offers 24/7 access to a network of electric vehicles (EVs). Members can rent a Nissan Leaf by the hour or day, paying only for the time that they choose to reserve.

“EPB is proud of this partnership that puts Chattanoogans in the drivers’ seat of next-generation mobility,” said EPB Marketing vice president J.Ed. Marston. “It’s a great option for people to commute around town in ways that support Chattanooga’s environmental stewardship.”

“We are excited to offer residents and visitors to Chattanooga a great option to experience EV mobility,” said community and outreach coordinator for Green Commuter Chattanooga Mel Honeycutt. “It’s like owning a car without the financial responsibility of car ownership, since Green Commuter pays for the electricity, insurance, parking and maintenance.”

The Nissan Leafs are available at charging stations located throughout the metro area including downtown, CARTA’s Shuttle Park facilities, the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, Hamilton Place and Northgate Malls, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Southern Adventist University.

EPB serves more than 170,000 homes and businesses in a 600 square-mile area that includes greater Chattanooga, as well as parts of surrounding counties and areas of North Georgia.

In 2010, EPB became the first provider in the United States to deliver up to 1 Gig (1,000 mbps) internet speeds utilizing a community-wide fiber optic network that provides access to every home and business in its service area. In 2015, EPB became the first, and to date, only American ISP to make up to 10 Gig (10,000 mbps) internet speeds accessible to all of its residential and commercial customers as a standard offer.

EPB has also utilized its community-wide fiber optic network to deploy the most advanced and highly automated smart grid power management system in the nation. In recognition of EPB’s groundbreaking infrastructure, the Department of Energy and Oak Ridge National Laboratory are utilizing EPB’s smart grid as a national model for researching and developing best practices. EPB is also the first major power distribution utility to earn the USGBC’s PEER certification for having a highly automated, modernized electric power grid. For more information, go to EPB.com.
